Coding with Arbitrary Signs or Symbols

Word And Number Coding Decoding: To keep the transaction secure the message that is being sent is first codes and then sent. At the receiving end the message is decoded before it is read.  Thus for sending secret messages from one place to another, especially in Defence Service, coding is used. The codes are based on various principles or patterns such that the message can be easily be deciphered at the other end. Now-a-days, in certain competitive examinations, such questions are given to judge the candidates intelligence and mental ability. They are required to encode and decode words and sentences after observing the pattern and principles involved. To code the message in more secure way a combination of characters and numbers is used.

Coding with Arbitrary Signs/Symbols:  The pattern of coding here takes an extensive use of arbitrary signs and symbols. the various characters of the message are converted into symbols. A careful deciphering of the codes is required to decode the question series.

Illustration:  If M I S S I O N is coded star ! ? ? ! % $ and LENS is coded @ # $, then how will you code L I O N E S S ?

A.  @ ! % $ # ? $             B.  @ ! % ? # ? ?      C. @ ! % $ # ? ?         D. @ ! % $ # # ?

Answer: C

Solution: A careful deciphering of the two codes reads the following:

MISOLEN
star ! ?%$

Therefore, L I O N E S S will be coded as @ ! % $ # ? ?

Illustration: If NECK is written as '?_3%', LUCK is written as '+@3%' and LIKE is written as '+÷%_', then NICE is written as

A.  ?%÷3            B.  ?÷3_             C.  ?÷@_        D.  ÷?3+

Answer: B

Solution: NECK is written as '?_3%', LUCK is written as '+@3%' and LIKE is written as '+÷%_', then on analysing these codes a table of code can be formed

NECKLUI
?_3%+@÷

NICE so N is coded as ? and I is coded as ÷ and C is coded as 3 and E is coded as _ so answer is ?÷3_ Hence the correct option is B
